Clinical Research Dietician

About The Position

About the Role:

The Clinical Research Dietician will support specific clinical research activities within a dermatology-focused clinical trial site that expand into obesity and metabolic studies. This role will provide nutritional expertise to support study protocols, patient care, and trial compliance. Working collaboratively with Clinical Research Coordinators, investigators, and site staff, the Dietitian plays a key role in promoting high-quality participant engagement and adherence to study requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nutritional counseling and education to clinical trial participants in accordance with study protocols
  • Support screening and eligibility assessments related to dietary and lifestyle criteria
  • Develop and/or implement standardized nutrition plans as required by study protocols
  • Monitor participant adherence to dietary interventions and document findings accurately
  • Collaborate closely with Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs), investigators, and interdisciplinary site staff to support effective trial execution
  • Maintain accurate and timely source documentation in compliance with regulatory and protocol requirements
  • Participate in study initiation, monitoring visits, and audits as needed
  • Provide input on patient recruitment and retention strategies related to nutrition and lifestyle components
  • Stay current with evidence-based nutrition practices relevant to obesity and metabolic health

Work Environment:

Physical Demands:

·        Intense visual concentration is greater than 50% of the time (e.g. Computers and/or tablets)

·         Requires extended periods of time sitting or standing

 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

1. Data Quality and Accuracy

Goal: Ensure the timely and accurate collection and documentation of clinical trial data.

·        Metric: Maintain a data accuracy rate of 98% or higher, with fewer than 2% of records requiring corrections after submission to the sponsor; ensure all required case report forms (CRFs) and trial data are submitted on time, with a goal of 100% compliance with submission deadlines.

2. Research Reporting and Documentation

Goal: Ensure accurate and timely reporting of trial progress, results, and regulatory documentation.

·        Metric: Submit all required reports and documentation (e.g., ethics committee progress reports, regulatory filings) by the assigned deadlines, achieving a 100% on-time submission rate.

3. Continuous Improvement and Quality Assurance

Goal: Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities for enhancing research practices and procedures.

·        Metric: Identify and implement at least two improvements in clinical trial processes or patient recruitment strategies annually.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or equivalent designation in good standing
  • Experience in clinical nutrition, preferably with obesity, weight management, or metabolic conditions
  • Previous clinical research experience is an asset but not required
  • Strong understanding of patient counseling and behavior change strategies
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a contract capacity while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team

Background Check:

A clear Criminal Background check, inclusive of a vulnerable sector search, is required to start. If you have resided outside of Calgary in the past 12 months, you will need to contact the local police or RCMP detachment in your previous residential municipality to be able to obtain a full report.
