About The Position

Position Overview

At Heavy, we deliver complex, large-scale architectural and artistic projects through a highly integrated production environment. Our Carpentry team plays a critical role in transforming digital designs and fabricated components into finished, high-quality assemblies.


As a Carpenter, you will execute custom builds while working closely with Digital Fabrication, CNC/Milling, and GFRC teams to ensure seamless project flow from concept to installation.


Core Responsibilities

Project Execution

  • Interpret shop drawings and digital production packages
  • Fabricate and assemble custom components and assemblies
  • Build one-off pieces across a variety of materials and finishes
  • Construct jigs, templates, and custom formwork
  • Execute work to defined tolerances and quality standards
  • Support installation locally and internationally as required

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with CNC/Milling team to ensure machined components meet assembly requirements
  • Collaborate with Digital Fabrication on drawing clarity, constructability, and revisions
  • Support GFRC team with mold/formwork fabrication
  • Identify and communicate upstream/downstream production issues early
  • Contribute to improving overall shop workflow and efficiency

Quality & Production

  • Inspect materials and completed work against specifications
  • Maintain high craftsmanship standards across all deliverables
  • Track progress against production schedules and targets
  • Proactively identify risks to timelines or quality

Shop Operations

  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workstations
  • Build and maintain reusable jigs/templates for production efficiency
  • Ensure clean, organized, and safe work areas

Leadership Responsibilities (as required)

  • Lead small teams or project scopes
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor progress
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Provide feedback on production processes and improvements

Safety Responsibilities

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Participate in safety training, audits, and hazard identification
  • Develop and execute lift plans where required
  • Maintain compliance with OH&S regulations

Hourly rate: $28-$32

Requirements

  • 5+ years in carpentry, fabrication, or custom build environments
  • Strong ability to interpret shop drawings and production documentation
  • Experience with custom joinery, formwork, or architectural builds
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
  • Understanding of CNC-produced components and tolerances
