About The Position

About the Opportunity

Inspired HR is partnering with a well-established, project-driven organization in the infrastructure and marine construction space to hire a Project Controller.

This is not a traditional back-office accounting role.

This position sits at the center of a large-scale, long-term project and plays a key role in owning the financial performance, supporting operational decision-making, and working directly with senior leadership and stakeholders.

You’ll be stepping into a role with real visibility and impact where your work directly influences project outcomes, financial strategy, and governance.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Work on a major, multi-year infrastructure project
  • Direct exposure to senior leadership and shareholders
  • Blend of finance, operations, and strategy
  • Opportunity to build, improve, and own financial processes
  • High level of autonomy in a lean, collaborative environment

The Role

As Project Controller, you will take ownership of the full financial function for the project, partnering closely with operations and leadership to ensure strong financial control, transparency, and performance.

You’ll operate across a wide scope from day-to-day financial oversight to board-level reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Lead monthly financial reporting, including preparation of financial statements and management reports
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models
  • Track performance against plan and provide clear insights to support decision-making

Business Partnering

  • Work closely with operations to link financial performance with project execution
  • Support productivity tracking, cost management, and KPI development
  • Provide financial insight to guide planning and operational decisions

Cash Flow & Capital Management

  • Manage project cash flow, forecasting, and liquidity planning
  • Support financing activities, including equity injections and banking relationships
  • Monitor and manage financial obligations, including covenants where applicable

Governance & Stakeholder Reporting

  • Support governance requirements within a joint venture environment
  • Prepare materials for senior leadership, shareholders, and financial committees
  • Ensure financial processes align with internal policies and contractual frameworks

Systems, Process & Compliance

  • Maintain and improve accounting systems and financial processes
  • Support audit, tax filings, and regulatory reporting (including GST)
  • Ensure strong data integrity and financial controls across the project

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a joint venture (JV) or multi-entity environment
  • Exposure to capital projects, infrastructure, or marine construction
  • Experience with system implementation or process improvement

Who This Role Is For

This role is ideal for someone who wants to move beyond a traditional finance function and step into a position with broader ownership.

You enjoy:

  • Being close to the business
  • Solving problems, not just reporting numbers
  • Building structure where needed
  • Having a seat at the table

Salary range $120K-$170K

Option to do this role part-time is available.

Requirements

  • CPA designation (or equivalent)
  • 5–10+ years of experience in project-based environments such as construction, infrastructure, or related industries
  • Strong experience in project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Ability to operate in a broad, hands-on role with multiple responsibilities
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, less structured environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across teams and senior stakeholders
